Obituary of Atwell I Suman

Atwell I ( Skip) Suman passed away at home on January 13th 2024. Born in Hagerstown, MD he was the son of the late Howell and Helen (Munson) Suman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister H. Jean Souders. Skip was a 1959 graduate of North Hagerstown High school. He enlisted in the US navy ( Submarines) in the early 1960’s and served on the USS James Maddison SSBN-627 from 1965 to 1971. He was honorably discharged after serving 28 years active duty and reserves with the rank of TMCS(SS). He then worked for Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space until his retirement. He was a member of the Submarine USS Sailfish base of USSVI in Venice FL and a previous member of the Seminole RV club of Florida. Skip is survived by his wife June ( Ward) Suman and his stepchildren Alan, Paul and Janette,( Stuart) and two granddaughters Abigayle and Hannah. We would like to thank the staff at Fresenius Dialysis Unit in Punta Gorda for their kind care and attention of Skip in last five years. Burial will be at sea and there will be no other service. A celebration of Skip's life is planned for the near future. No flowers please.
