Obituary of Nanette Johnston

In Loving Memory of Rebecca Nanette Johnston (Herrington) passed away unexpectedly on August 19, 2023, in Port Charlotte, Florida. Nanette was born to Jefferson Martin Herrington, Jr., and Nora (Ellis) Herrington, on November 15, 1948, in Pensacola, Florida. After graduating from Niceville High School in 1966, Nanette completed the dental hygiene program at Pensacola State College. A deeply caring hygienist, she practiced extensively in the Port Charlotte area for many years. Nanette is survived by her son, Matthew Johnston, his wife, Ashley, and their children, Levi and Kayla, who were the light of Nanette’s life. She is also survived by her siblings, Marie Rowe (Dan), Fritz Herrington (Suzie), and Mark Herrington (Terri), as well as nieces and nephews: Bradley Rowe (Paige), Emily Rowe Sadlow (John), Warren Herrington (Sara), Blake Herrington, Natalie Herrington, Gabrielle Herrington (Bryan), and Brock Herrington. Nanette’s memory is cherished by her aunt, Joan Damm, special friends, Debbie Munholand and Nicola Moscatelli, along with many devoted friends, cousins, grand nephews and nieces, who all adored her. She was predeceased by Matthew’s father, Ted Johnston; her grandparents, Jeff and Mattie Herrington; her parents; sister, Olivia Herrington; and nephew, Brett Herrington. Nanette was profoundly compassionate, generous, and thoughtful. She’ll be remembered for her engaging smile, fashionable attire, dramatic laugh, and vivacious personality. Throughout her life, Nanette brought much love to others by sending cards, gifts, and graceful orchids to friends and family. She was captivated by sunsets, rainbows, the beach, her pets, and her garden. A Renaissance woman who was quite creative, Nanette appreciated art, Broadway shows, poetry, flowers, butterflies, and music, including jazz, Leonard Cohen, and her favorite band, the Mavericks. An ardent traveler, she had visited Mexico, Hawaii, New York, San Francisco, Miami, Nashville, Montreal, Paris, London, and Italy. Nanette had the magical ability to make everyone around her feel genuinely special. To know Nanette was to be loved by her. She will be dearly missed by those who were lucky enough to know her.
