Walter and Vicky lived in Punta Gorda when Angel was a baby. I was in Jr High and lived down the street. Walking home from school, I heard them speaking Spanish. I was taking first year Spanish so I knocked on the door. Walter agreed to help me with Spanish and I helped them with English. Such a lovely family and I was saddened to learn of Walter’s passing.

Walter and I worked together many years ago at the Punta Gorda Isles Yacht club and restaurant when I was still in High School; he had just recently arrived from Peru. One incident he and I would recount often happened while we were working at the PGI Yacht club. I was a waiter there and Walter would bus tables for me and other waiters. On this occasion a fly was circling one of my tables that evening and the patron complained. I spoke with Walter to get something to remove the fly. As I was talking to him I said "There's a fly around my table"..."What!!" he replied, and I responded with "fly around the table"...to which he replied, "Esteban, I can't fly". We had become fast friends at that point and later I worked with him and Pedro Triana at Triana's terrazzo floor construction and finishing company during my summer vacations from college. Many times I went to Walter's house where his wife Vickie would prepare Peruvian meals and I was introduced to a working man's Peruvian menu. It was all delicious, but I liked the ceviche and fried plantains the best of all. I became great friends with both Vickie and Walter. I remember his daughter Angela (Angelita) who was two years old when he and I first met and I remember the birth of his son, Walter (Waltercito). He was very proud of both of them. One of the regrets in my life was that I let our friendship dissipate over the years when I moved away to the Maryland area. He was a good, hardworking man and was the truest of friends. I will close with this wish, that wherever Walter is, I hope he looks down and remembers his good friend Esteban.
My condolences to Vickie, Angela, and Walter and all of Walter Senior's grandkids. You lost a good man who is a wonderful family man.

Not a moment passes that I'm not thinking about my dad. What I'd give to be with him once more. He wasn't a hero known by people but to me, he was and always will be my hero. He was a hard working, caring, loving man that touched so many lives. His love of our family has always been my inspiration to do the same for mine. I miss him deeply and hope that I make him proud as he looks upon me from Heaven! I love you Dad!
Your son, Walter (Papo)

I didn't get to know your father very well before he became sick. His values and love of life live through his children and grandchildren. He sounded like a great man and hard worker and has touched many lives. My deepest sympathy to the entire Pereira and Naskale families. Remember the memories and let his legacy live on. All our love - Amy, Ernie, Clayton Toth

My condolences to Mrs. Pereira, Angie, Chris and the entire family. I remember Mr. Pereira being so close to his family and lighting up when his grandchildren were around. I can only hope the memories you all share, can comfort you at this time.
Love you all!
