Obituary of Ronald Richard Slattery

Port Charlotte, FL -- Ronald Richard Slattery, 88 of Lake Suzy, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2024, at Solaris Healthcare in Port Charlotte, Florida. Born in Goffstown, NH, he was the son of the late James P. and Lillian Y. (Chomard) Slattery. Raised and educated in Nashua, NH, Ron enlisted in the Army reserves serving from 1957 to 1963. He married the love of his life, Blanche Violet Fournier on April 27, 1957. They had two children, Patricia and Steven. He worked at Horton Hubbard as a Maintenance Supervisor, in Nashua NH. They lived in Nashua for 12 years before moving to Alfred, Maine where they purchased a campground named Scott’s Cove Camping Area on Bunganut Lake. Ron also worked for the Maine Turnpike Authority as a Maintenance Superintendent. They had 24 enjoyable years operating the seasonal campground. He was always the life of the party and loved being with family and friends. During the off season, they enjoyed traveling the United States by camper and took 21 cruises exploring Alaska, Panama, Italy, and many other countries, including Ireland. They retired in 1995 and resided in Port Charlotte, Florida. Ron was preceded in death by his mother and father; his wife, Blanche; his brothers, James, Kevin and his infant brother Kenneth. Surviving members of his family include his daughter, Patricia A. Edgecomb and son-in-law, Bruce W. Edgecomb; a son, Steven J. Slattery and daughter-in-law, Kellie Slattery; a granddaughter, Erica A. Gold and husband Christopher Frith; Sister, Katherine Macomber and Husband Richard Macomber; Sister-in-laws Dale Slattery and Diane Slattery and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The Slattery family extends a special thanks to the entire staff of Solaris Healthcare in Port Charlotte who cared for Ron during his lengthy stay. The family is forever grateful for the exceptional care he received. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ron’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 A Private Burial will be held for immediate family later this month, with a Celebration of Life event held in Sanford, Maine in July.
