John Smith

Obituary of John D. Smith

John (Jack) Douglas Smith, 77, passed away on 10/14/23, peacefully at home, in Englewood, FL with his wife at his side. Jack was born to the late Robert and Delores Smith, of Sullivan NH. He went into the U S Navy at the age of 17. At the age of 21 was married to the love of his life and they celebrated 56 loving years together. In his own previously written words, John shared that his top two accomplishments in life were: 1) a successful marriage to his wife, Deborah, and 2) raising an “only child”, Denise, who is exceptional in many ways and a source of pride and pleasure. He was a proud man dedicated to protecting and doing what was best for his family and friends. He was able to obtain the technical training needed, dedicating time to his work and relocating as needed to grow within his chosen career. As a young man, Jack proudly served in the U.S. Navy and achieved the highest rank possible and air crew member status before 3 1/2 years of service and graduated #1 in Aviation Electrician School. The technical skills gained while in the U.S. Navy and his natural business savviness proved beneficial throughout his corporate career as he was promoted up the management pipeline with leading technology corporations. After following his daughter to Florida, Jack and his wife purchased a franchise – after twenty one successful years with this business Jack fell victim to many health issues and numerous surgeries. Jack never gave up … and even said, “I cannot quit now…” as the next surgery was scheduled. Jack lost his battle on 10/14/23 – the same date as they were married. Jack will be greatly missed by each and every one who had the opportunity to meet such a generous, loving and giving person. Jack is survived by his wife, Deborah, their daughter Denise and her husband Scott of Windermere, FL, and two beautiful grandchildren, Cassandra and Clayton Graf. Jack is also survived by his siblings Robert J Smith, Sr. and his wife Sandy of Keene, NH, Sandra Dobisky of Keene, NH and her significant other Dave Modica of VT, Mary Lawrence and her husband Dusty of Keene, NH, David Smith and his wife Lisa of Keene, NH, Casey Tarr of NC, Dean Smith and his wife Machelle of Gilsum, NH, and many nieces, nephews, extended families and very special friends. Jack was predeceased by his parents, brother Dennis, his sisters Barbara Anne, Diane and baby Brenda. Jack requested there be no services, and his ashes were to be buried at a later date, with his wife’s ashes in Spofford, NH (where they met). Jack will be forever remembered, forever loved and forever missed!
