Obituary of Robert James O'Mara

Robert “Bob” James O’Mara, 76 of Punta Gorda, FL, went home to be with his Savior 5 April 2023 while surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born in Syracuse, NY to the late Edward and Gertrude (King) O’Mara. He was predeceased by two sisters, Nancy Holland and Joan Kraus, their husbands, a nephew and grand-niece. Bob leaves behind his loving wife Anne of 52 years and his three loving children, Stacey O’Mara of Auburn, PA, William (Elizabeth) O’Mara of Clinton, NY and Lauren O’Mara of Clinton, NY. He leaves behind his three “favorite” grandchildren, Lily, Liam and Reed. In addition, he leaves behind two siblings Edward (Jo) O’Mara and Carol (Robert) Clark, many nieces and nephews and countless loving friends of both NY and FL. After graduating from SUNY Brockport, Bob began his career in education, teaching American History at Greece Athena Middle School until his retirement in 2002. Bob had a deep appreciation for the great historical events that shaped our nation and often taught well beyond the classroom to his children, family and friends. Bob was always industrious in turning his hobbies into a way to support his family. One of his greatest hobbies was antiquing with his wife and children where they ran an antique business specializing in oak furniture for many years. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of HCA Fawcett Hospital in Port Charlotte, FL, for their tremendous care with which Bob was so impressed and Pastor Drew Conover of Lifepoint Church in Yorkville, NY for assisting Bob with the gift of salvation. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob’s memory to Lifepoint Church, 74 Whitesboro St. Yorkville, NY 13495.
