Obituary of Frances R. Mellenger

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Frances Rotino Mellenger, beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020 at her home in Punta Gorda, Florida. Frances was born on August 9, 1940, in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of the late Dominic Rotino and Mary (Collura) Rotino. Her husband, Karl A. Mellenger, preceded Frances in death by 9 days. Frances and Karl were married for 58 years and were completely devoted to each other. They shared a love of God and family. They also loved to dance and travel. They visited Hawaii many times together, their favorite place. When the Mellenger family moved to Kentucky in 1978, Frances bought a dry cleaners and built a very successful business called Summit Dry Cleaners. She owned it until they retired to Florida. Frances loved to crochet and made beautiful blankets using monk’s cloth. She made one for every family member and friend. She also loved musicals, movies, the Buffalo Bills and the Italian musical group, Il Volo. Frances will forever be remembered for her love of people, positive attitude and seeing the silver lining in every difficult situation. Frances is survived by her daughters, Angela (Mellenger) Mundy and her husband Timothy, Julie (Mellenger) Nolen, Michelle (Mellenger) Rogers and her husband James. Grandchildren, David (Brandee), Matthew (Jessica), Beau, Erik (Kevin), Alexander (Amber) and Meredith. Great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Eli and Evelyn. She is also survived by her brother, Donald Rotino and his wife Sandy and her sister, Mary Jane (Rotino) Jerge and her husband Gene. A celebration of Frances’ life and Karl’s will take place in Buffalo later this year.
