Obituary of Fred Stevens

Fred R. Stevens, 99, of Port Charlotte, passed away June 23, 2012. He was born January 23, 1913 in Henderson, KY. to the late John and Clara Stevens. He served honorably during WWII in the U. S. Army/Navy at Guantanamo Bay. Fred retired from Wanda's and Franks Retail clothing stores and moved to Punta Gorda, FL in 1971. He has always been active in the community, served 15 yrs. with the city of Punta Gorda, planning and zoning commission. He attended First Presbyterian Church of Pt. Charlotte and served as an elder. He was past president of St. Andrews Golf Course for 3 years, past member of Masonic Lodge, and Eastern Star. Fred had an active life which he enjoyed very much. He is survived by his loving wife of 77 years, Wanda; nieces Loleta Ashcraft, Donna Armstrong, and Lyn Shoulders; nephews Robert Stevens, Shelly Stevens, Roger Lutz and Richard Lutz. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 2230 Hariet Street, Pt. Charlotte, FL 33952. A memorial service will be conducted Thursday at 10:30 am at the Town Hall at South Port Square on Westchester Blvd. in Port Charlotte with Rev. Russell Hickman officiating. Fred always enjoyed God's Word during his Sunday sermons. Fred was placed to rest Tues., June 26, at Charlotte Memorial Cemetery. Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens has been trusted with his arrangements.
