Obituary of Averil S Dorsett

Born in Bristow, Oklahoma in 1930 Nettie Averil Sharrock was one of seven siblings to Ralph and Mary Sharrock. Averil earned her nursing degree in 1952 and served in the US Air Force as a First Lieutenant until 1955 when she met and married Herbert Dorsett. She worked in the nursing profession while traveling around the world as a military wife blessing her husband with five children. Eventually settling in Charlotte Couny, Florida in 1975 Averil worked as the Director of Nursing when Fawcett Memorial Hospital opened that same year. She left the hospital industry to work in private home health care in the early 1980's until her retirement in 1995. Averil was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in the late 1980's and through rigorous diet and exercise was able to control her symptoms with little medication. Her biggest battle came in 1996 when she suffered a massive stroke but remained determined to recover. She resided at Village Place Health and Rehabilitation until her passing on December 15th, 2016. Averil is survived by her five children Jerry Dorsett, Carol Lefton, Jon Dorsett, Andrew Dorsett , Johanna Whelan, their spouses Juanita Dorsett, Jeffrey Lefton, Michelle Dorsett, Kelly Dorsett, John Whelan and her ten grandchildren. She was an incredibly strong woman and beloved mother who quietly touched the lives of so many. May you run and sing with the angels, your place in Heaven has been filled!
