Obituary of Edward Thomas McDonough
Edward Thomas McDonough, 90 of Punta Gorda, FL. died on Sept. 16, 2016.
Ed was born on August 11, 1926. He served as a pharmacist mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II before graduating from Fordham University in 1949 and New York Medical College in 1953. It was at NYMC that he met and married his beloved late wife Edith. They took their internships and residencies at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, NY, where he became a staff member in obstetrics and gynecology. He advanced to department chair while at St. Mary's. In 1977, they moved to Cape Cod, where he practiced ob/gyn before retiring to Punta Gorda in 1990.
He is survived by three sons: Edward (Kathy) McDonough of Lewes, DE, Kevin (Sheri) McDonough of Anderson, SC and Jaimie (Patty) McDonough of Penfield, NY., two daughters: Kathy (Brendan) Layton of Chadds Ford, PA. and Mary (Michael) May of Columbia, MD; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and Twin Isles Country Club. Throughout his adult life he and Edith enjoyed golfing, boating, cruising and traveling the world.
A memorial mass with military honors will be held Oct. 22 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 211 W. Charlotte Ave. in Punta Gorda, FL. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to the leukemia and lymphoma society.
