Obituary of Ruth Evans

DOB: 10/15/1913 in Logan, Ohi0 Ruth was the oldest of three children. The youngest, her brother Edward grew up to be a Flight Controller for the FAA. Her sister Mildred grew up and married Paul Solon. They later opened and operated their own drugstore in Euclid, Ohio until they retired. Their father, a successful veterinarian left the family and moved to Missouri when the children were still in school but continued to support the family. Their mother helped support the family by teaching piano lessons and becoming a seamstress which she did until her death. Ruth graduated high school 1931. While in high school she worked part time in her uncle's confectionary store. After graduation, she worked for the city water department and the state highway department. She later attended Capitol University in Columbus, Ohio and completed a ten month business course. After completion she went back to Logan and soon was hired by Western and Southern Life insurance to handle the sales appointments and cash in a five or six person branch office. Ruth married John Evans from a nearby town New Straitsville, in 1941. John enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and their only child, Ronald was born in December, 1942. Ruth and their son joined John in West Point, Virginia where he was stationed in 1943 and they remained there until the conclusion of WWII. They went back to Logan for a short time until John was hired by the U. S. Government as a Civil Service employee to work for the Armed Services in Dayton, Ohio. Shortly after Ronald started attending school; Ruth also obtained a Civil Service job at the same agency as John. They worked there until 1953 when their employment function was transferred to Shelby, Ohio. They lived in Plymouth, Ohio until 1958 when their employment function was ended. They both obtained new Civil Service positions at the Quartermaster Depot in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania until they both retired in 1965. They were living in Barrington, New Jersey when they retired and soon moved to Punta Gorda, Florida. John died in 1980. Ruth continued to live in their home until 1995 when she moved to Jacksonville, Florida to live with her son and his wife Karen Ruth's main hobby was knitting. She rarely pursued that hobby after moving to Florida I assume because of the climate and began attending craft classes mostly to create pottery objects. She also was an avid reader until her eyesight became too poor. She loved pets and was a dog owner until her death. Her last dog Lexie lived with her in the assisted living facility until she could no longer care for her. Ruth attended the Lutheran church nearly her whole life. Her mom Amelia was a seamstress and made the robes for their choir and sang in that choir until she died in Logan, Ohio.
