Obituary of Mary M. Wagner

I loving memory of Mary M. Wagner April 9 1914 - September 4, 2016 Mary Wagner was born April 9, 1914 in Neosho County, Ks, to Finley and Anna Myers. Mary is the second daughter out of five girls. Mary grew up on a small farm, went to country schools and graduated from Grant Township Rural High School on May 19, 1932. On January 1, 1936, Mary married Estel Venus in Eire Ks. Mary had one daughter, born on May 12 1939. Mary became a widow on March 30, 1940. Mary received a two-year degree in teaching from Chaunte Community College. Mary was in The United States Coast Guard from 1943 to 1946. Mary married Ernest Wagner on April 26, 1946 in Cleveland Ohio. Mary received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Case Western Reserve University. Mary received a Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education Administration. Mary then became an assistant principal and principal and remained in this position until she retired in 1978. While living in North Port Mary served on many organizations and advisory board. Some of these included: • AARP (North Port Area) - Served terms as President and Area Director • North Port Civic Association - Served terms as President and secretary • Glenallen Elementary School Community Advisory Board - Served 2 terms • Sarasota County Poll Workers - Served for over 20 years • North Port Planning & Zoning Advisory Board - Served 10 years • North Port Health Advisory Board - Served 1983-1995 Mary is survived by one sister: Margaret Criswell (100 yrs old), one daughter: Peggy Ellis, three adopted children (biological grandchildren): Nita Hester, Jonathan Wagner, and Jason Wagner, three grandchildren: Joseph Tatman, James Tatman, and Randel Richards, five step Grandchildren: Rhonda Amaro, Laura Martin, Dennis Ellis, Tina Edgerton, and Darrin Ellis, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and twenty great-great grandchildren,. Mary molded many minds, some old ones too,. Mary's willingness to teach and share her experience and wisdom has made the world a better place to live. Mary left a mark on every life she touched. We are grateful that Mary touched our lives. A Viewing is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. with the funeral following at 11:00 a.m. at Living Waters Lutheran Church,12475 Chancellor Blvd. in Port Charlotte, with interment service to follow at Charlotte Memorial Cemetery.
