Obituary of Xavier Cardonne Alonso

This is Alfred. I am Xavier's father. I would like to start off saying "Thank You All" for saying all these wonderful things about Xavier. I know he appreciates it and I know that we do. It's actually an eye opener because as a parent, you know your child or children as your sons or daughters. You meet some of their friends but not all. I'm not a big FaceBook user but I will say this, you get to know them in a different light. In Xavier's case, the people I've seen through his account are truly good and loving people. Xavier… the pride and joy of our life. To us, he was the perfect son. Starting when he was born and would actually sleep nights and eat whatever we gave him. Going through elementary and middle school in both Gifted and Honors classes, learning German while also playing soccer, basket ball and achieving a Black Belt in Taekwondo. He brought so much pride and joy to us. Something else you may not know is that he took both guitar and violin classes. Not to say that he was an expert, he actually did pretty well with the guitar. A couple years ago, we moved to Punta Gorda, FL when he was about to enter his senior year at Columbus (high school). He only had one more year to graduate from Columbus with the many friends he made and we packed up and left like the The Beverly Hillbillies. You younger ones most likely will not know what the The Beverly Hillbillies was but you can Google it. Anyways, he left his friends which I know he truly loved. Life in Punta Gorda was a little rough in the beginning. He was a new kid in a new town. But… it didn't take long for him to make good friends here. He also joined the Navy ROTC in his senior year. I was lucky enough to meet some of them. It once again instilled pride that he continued to surround himself with people that had a sense of purpose and wanted to go somewhere in life. After high school he wanted to serve our country which we found to be noble but wanted him to continue his studies. He came back with the option of the Army Reserves where he could make us both happy. He made it to an E3 Combat Medic. Xavier was taken from us way too soon. He had turned 20 just about a week earlier. The loss of a child is the worse pain a parent can ever have. We are hurting now and forever will. However, I take solace in knowing that for those short 20 years, he truly lived a happy life. It was a life that many would envy. Apart from the many accomplishments he had, he got to travel to many parts of the world and had the love of and support of his family and friends. He also got to experience the love of a girl. Thinking while I am writing this, it's important to say that he also gave. He had his sense of humor, was loyal to the end with his friends and always tried to make people feel better. He truly made everyone's life he touched a better place. I apologize if this is a bit lengthy. i feel like continuing forever but It wasn't the initial intention of the post. I simply want to say that on behalf of Xavier's parents, we thank you all for the kind words and support during these most extreme and difficult times. I know that our lives were blessed by having him in it and from what I see, yours was touched as well. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
