Obituary of Shirley A. Carlsen

Shirley A. Carlsen of Punta Gorda, FL passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Bayfront Punta Gorda. She was born December 13, 1927 to Willard and Lena (née Johnson) Cone in Muskegon, MI, and moved to Punta Gorda from Michigan in 1999 with her husband of 67 years, Edwin G. Carlsen. Shirley graduated from Western Michigan University with a teaching degree in Home Economics. She was employed several years in the Portage Public Schools in Michigan and retired as a Manager in Food Services. Shirley enjoyed fishing with Edwin both in Michigan and when they moved to Punta Gorda, where they joined the PGICA Fishing Club. She was a life-long crafter, a skilled seamstress, cook, and painter, and enjoyed gifting her many projects for the enjoyment of others. She loved and was dedicated to caring for her husband. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and daughter, creating so many wonderful memories with her family and friends. Survivors include her beloved husband, Edwin; three daughters, Patti Carlsen, Phyllis (Vince) Adamaitis, Tracee (Steve) Scheidt; one son, Jeffrey (Karen) Carlsen; grandchildren, Farah, Jessica, Keith, Joe, Erin, Alex, Mike and Shelby; and great grandchildren, Chase, Ian, Jonathan, Riley, Olivia, Reid and Gabe. The family will hold a private memorial and burial at sea at a later date.
