Obituary of Salvatore J. Munno

Salvatore (Sonny) J. Munno Sr, 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Dec 21, 2015 of lung cancer and pneumonia. He fought with all his might to overcome his illness, but our Lord called him home. Born in Chicago, IL on Jan 25, 1931, Sonny lived a wonderful life. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 beautiful years, Louise ("Foxie"); daughter, Laurie (Glenn) Schilstra; son, Salvatore J. (Connie) Munno, Jr.; and sister, Rose ("Babe") Maupin, who was named after a sister who had predeceased them at an early age. Sonny also had 7 grandchildren, Carrie, Annie, Corissa, Danielle, Nicholas, Vincent and Julianna; 10 great-grandchildren (with one on the way); and nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Ignatius and Anna (Nespero) Mugnolo and 8 brothers and sisters, Jennie, Antoinette, Jimmy, Lena, Mary, Carlo, Rose and Anna, all of Chicago, IL. Sonny retired in Chicago as a successful home builder and owner of Munno Home Builders at the age of 42 and relocated to Punta Gorda, FL in Oct of 1973 to enjoy his lovely wife and retirement. Sonny was a very active and ambitious man. After spending quality time with his wife and family and playing tennis and golf during his retirement, he decided he felt more useful keeping busy, so he went back to home building and remodeling. Sonny started another business known as AB-CO Pressure Cleaning & Painting, LLC. He really enjoyed meeting and serving the people of Charlotte and its surrounding counties, doing what he loved best - working outdoors and making new friends. Sonny was a loving and caring man of his word and had an impeccable reputation. Everyone loved and trusted him explicitly. Sonny was a humble man and explicit in saying that he wanted nothing more than cremation with no services. And, based on a vow that he and his wife, Louise had for years, they will be comingled one day and set off into the sky together, with a private family reflection. The family is most appreciative of the kindness and compassion Sonny received for 3 weeks from the staff at Fawcett Memorial in ICU and his final time on the 4th floor, along with those special friends who came to help comfort him.
