Obituary of Leonard L. Burkhardt
BURKHARDT - Leonard L. Burkhardt, Sr., 86, of Port Charlotte, FL, formerly of
Franklin, PA passed away peacefully on Monday, December 7, 2015.
Len was born on May 18, 1929 in Franklin, PA and was the son of Arthur M. Burkhardt
and Florence Day Burkhardt. Those who will miss Len the most include his wife, Gloria
Say Burkhardt; his two daughters, Terry L. Best of Port Charlotte, FL; Cindy K. Grimm
and her husband Van L. Grimm of Punta Gorda, FL; his two sons Leonard L.
Burkhardt, Jr. and his wife Laura Burkhardt of Lakeland, FL; Jeffrey S. Burkhardt and
his wife Elizabeth Burkhardt of Brookline, New Hampshire; his half-sister Carol
Richardson and her husband Larry Richardson of Kingston, MA; and a step brother, Jim
Cressman of Church Hill, TN. Len has 8 grandchildren: Dawn Best of Virginia Beach,
VA; Nathan Grimm of San Angelo, TX; Christian Grimm of Montgomery, AL; Andrew
Grimm of Port Charlotte; Lee Burkhardt of Seoul, South Korea; Lance Burkhardt,
LeighAnne Burkhardt; and Lyle Burkhardt all of Lakeland, FL. His 6 great grandchildren
along with close family in PA will, also, miss him tremendously. Len was preceded in
death by his mother and father, a brother Richard Burkhardt and a half-brother Charles
Mosher.
He worked for his father, A.M. Burkhardt in the family construction business for 22
years. Later, he went to work for Daniels Transfer Co. both in Franklin, PA for 23 years.
In 1983, Len and Gloria moved to Port Charlotte, FL where he worked for the Grimm
Overhead Door Co. for 10 years. He was enthusiastic about camping and travel. Len
and Gloria toured the entire U.S. including Alaska with their motor home after his
retirement.
Len was a quiet gentleman and his strong ethics and positive attitude can never be
replaced. Len was one of a kind!
A Celebration of Life service commemorating Len's life will be conducted by Pastor
Brian James on Saturday, December 19th at 11:00 am at the Port Charlotte Methodist
Church, 21075 Quesada Avenue, Port Charlotte, FL.
The family is requesting in lieu of flowers donations be made to their local Hospice
Association.
