Obituary of Anna E. Getty

Anna E. Getty of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2015. She was 106. Anna was born in Frostburg, Maryland, daughter of the late Clyde D. and Harriet Elizabeth (Kalbaugh) Elrick, and widow of the late William D. Getty. Anna joined the Army School of Nursing in 1929, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1932. She received her training both at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, DC She went on to practice as a registered nurse in the DC area until 1940 when she and her husband returned to Grantsville, MD where she nursed him through a long illness until his death in 1950. During this period, Anna was employed at the First State Bank in Grantsville where she worked until 1955. Anna later returned to nursing in Washington, DC, and was Chief Nurse in the Medical Unit of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing from 1966 until her retirement in 1972. After her retirement, Anna moved to Port Charlotte from Washington, DC She was a devout member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte and developed many social and religious friendships there. She is survived by her nephew, James Getty Smart of Keene, New Hampshire. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00AM on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
