Obituary of LaVerne Agnes Hufnagel

LaVerne Agnes (Schroeder) Hufnagel of Port Charlotte Florida, died at her home on May 29th. She was 97. A native a Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Hufnagel was the fourth daughter of Jacob and Agnes (Sauer) Schroeder. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy. She married Walter Hufnagel of Sharon, Pennsylvania on July 10, 1943. They lived in Oakland, California for three years while he served in the Coast Guard during World War II. They then moved to Sharon to raise their family. She was active in Homemakers, several card clubs and the Rolling Wheels Camping Club. They retired to Port Charlotte, Florida in 1980 and traveled extensively in their retirement. She was a volunteer at Fawcett Hospital until she was 95. She was an avid reader and card player and prided herself on doing the daily crossword puzzle in pen. Mrs. Hufnagel is survived by her four children John (Jack) Hufnagel and his wife Pauline of Akron, Ohio; Tom Hufnagel and his partner Rebecca Muha of Masury, Ohio; Gary Hufnagel of Port Charlotte and Joan Fitzgerald and her husband Robert Kuttner of Boston, Ma. She has four grandchildren: Amy Kelso (Jay) of Colorado Springs, Co; Brian Hufnagel (Chrissie) of Charleston, SC, Shelly Fitzgerald (Vincent Lorenzo) of Englewood, NJ; Sara Bell (Ryan) of Kennerdale, Pa. and eight great grandchildren. The family received friends at her home. Service will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 5957 Rand Blvd. Sarasota, Fl. 34238.
