Obituary of Elwood William Seaman

Elwood William "Woody" Seaman, 94, or Port Charlotte, Florida passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2015. Elwood was born on February 6, 1921 in Coketon, West Virginia to the late William and Maude Seaman, a humble coal miner's family. He not only devoted his life to this family, but also to his country. After graduating high school, Elwood served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. under President Roosevelt. When Pearl Harbor was bombed, he joined the Marines and fought the duration of WWII until Germany was defeated in May and Japan in August of 1945. His legacy makes us proud to be an American. During his military leave he met Sylvia Matheson of Melbourne, Australia and worked his way back to Australia by boat after the war. He married and he and his young bride returned to America. In his later years, he found love and married Bertie Lucille Rozelle of Port Charlotte. Elwood is survived by his wife, Lucille Seaman of Port Charlotte, FL; twin children, Greg (Sally) Seaman of Clarkston, MI and Gloria (Randy) Moore of Lachine, MI; son, Gary Seaman of Alpena, MI; sister, Gloria (Gordon) Cooper of Winter Park, FL; sisters-in-law, Gloria (Phil) Harpster, OH, Ann Dube of Turner, ME, and Anna Hahn of Scottsdale, AZ; 8 grandchildren, Ryan, Amy, Kyle, and Alex Seaman, Terry and Thomas Bertrand, Krystal Seaman, and Casey Webb; 2 step-grandchildren, Bridget and Randy Moore; and 7 great-grandchildren, Lily, Stella, Mikaylee, Crysta, Gabe, Abby, and Jake. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Seaman of Florida, oldest son, Johnny James Seaman of Highland, MI, who was also a Vietnam Vet serving in the Army, brother, Charles Seaman, sister, Elsie (Dallas) Haun, and granddaughter, Katie Webb.
