Obituary of Georgene S. Keirn

Georgene S. Keirn, 83, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015 at her residence. Mrs. Keirn was born June 21, 1931 in Orange, California to George and Bernice (nee Yeo) Stannard. Georgene was a gifted pianist and co-founder of Visual Awareness Research Group, Inc. (a specialized software development company. She is survived by her daughters Karlene (David) Ball of Birmingham, AL, Kristina (Arthur Bernberg) Berg, of Punta Gorda, FL, and Sharon (John Whiting) Keirn of Glen Ellyn, IL; her grandchildren, Rachel, Philip, Max, Rebecca, Samuel, and James; seven great-grandchildren, and many loving friends and neighbors, who will all miss her smile. Georgene was preceded in death by her husband, Philip, in 2011. Georgene was raised in California and attended UCLA prior to settling in Pasadena, California and subsequently in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Georgene loved to share her gift and support of music. She was a sought after piano teacher with a warm heart for all students and she lent her talent on the piano to church events, Wheaton Drama productions, and charitable occasions. Georgene also became greatly involved in Music Parent organizations at Glenbard West High School for her daughters, Karlene, Kristina, and Sharon. Georgene also became the Chairwoman of the Glen Ellyn Recreation Commission and participated in the local Pasadena and Glen Ellyn chapters of PEO. Georgene and her husband, Phil, were avid bridge players even in their early married life in Pasadena and they continued this passion with their many friends in Glen Ellyn and Punta Gorda. Georgene and Phil were also often seen golfing at the Village Links in Glen Ellyn, the Twin Isles Country Club in Punta Gorda, and virtually anywhere they could take their clubs. Georgene and Phil traveled extensively, and Georgene, in particular, thoroughly thrived exploring new surroundings. To the delight of their children and grandchildren, they often included family members on their journeys. Later in her life, Georgene became an integral part of Visual Awareness Research Group, Inc. as its Corporate Secretary and Treasurer. She could always be counted on to come through for her family and friends with compassion, thoughts, and support. Georgene lived and loved what she believed in with great passion and she will be missed by all.
