Obituary of Doris Emerson King

Doris Emerson King of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014. She was born June 27, 1923, in Sudbury, Mass., the third child of Irving and Virginia Priest. Educated in the Sudbury public school system and thereafter attended Westbrook Junior College and was graduated from Boston University with an Associate Degree in Commercial Science. Studied voice extensively, both in the U.S. and Germany, specializing in lieder and oratorio, and was active as a soloist for many years with musical groups, both church and secular. She was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Women's Army Air Corps (WAAC) in Colorado Springs, Colo. Following discharge in 1946, she was employed as a legal secretary, and in 1951 began a 20 year career with the Federal Government, first with the Department of the Air Force in Germany, and later with the Central Intelligence Agency from which she retired in 1973, after serving in Washington, Argentina, Chile, Germany, Israel, Honduras and Panama. She was married to Herbert George King. Following his death she returned to Massachusetts, and in 1989, relocated to Punta Gorda, Fla. She is survived by her step-daughter, Vivian (King) Braunoher; and three step-grandchildren; and nephew, Irving Priest. There will be no services. Memorials may be directed to the Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County, 3519 Drance Street, Charlotte Harbor, Fl 33980. Arrangements are by Charlotte memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery.
