Obituary of Peggy J. Mock

Peggy Jane Mock, 87, a long-time resident of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away on September 9, 2014 after a short illness. Peggy was born in Lakeland, Florida on May 3, 1927. Peggy and her brother, Charles Murdock Mock (died 1985) were the children of Jesse and Ruby Mock of Lakeland. Peggy was a graduate of Florida State University, where she was a member of the University's first marching, symphonic and circus bands. She enjoyed music her entire life and played her tuba in many bands. In 1993, she joined the Charlotte County Concert Band where she was a past president and a tireless advocate in promoting the band and the concerts held at The Cultural Center of Charlotte County. After graduation from FSU, Peggy moved to Windsor, Connecticut, where she began her working career with CIGNA (Connecticut General) in Bloomfield, CT. Peggy was an officer of the company and was responsible for helping to establish CIGNA's first computer systems. The UNIVAC Peggy worked on was donated to the Smithsonian in Washington, DC in April of 1979. She retired early from CIGNA and continued living in Windsor, CT and Sheffield, VT. In 1993, Peggy along with a dear friend and co-worker from CIGNA, Eleanor Kohm, moved to Port Charlotte and enjoyed winters in sunny Florida and summers in Sheffield in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. She was loved and respected and will be remembered in the hearts of those who knew her. Peggy is survived by her nieces and nephews, Sharon Mock and her husband, Sam Blum, of Tampa, FL, Peggy C. Mock of Unionville, CT, Powell Mock and his wife, Helen, of Jacksonville, FL, Elizabeth Mock of Milton, MA, Patricia Mock and her wife, Anne Madara, of Framingham, MA, and Susan Stoval and her husband, Richard, of San Antonio, TX; her grand-nieces and nephews, Whitney Kurlan of Trumbull, CT, Beth LeBlanc and her husband, Daryl, of Maitland, FL, Joel Kurlan and his wife, Nicole Mason, of Glastonbury, CT, Kevin Mock of Tampa, FL, Benjamin Mock of Jacksonville, FL, Jesse Mock of Jacksonville, FL, and Sydney Stoval of San Antonio, TX; her great-grand-niece, Rachel LeBlanc of Maitland, FL; and many cousins in Lakeland, FL.
