Obituary of Mabel Gertie Fleenor

Mabel G. Fleenor (Childers), 89, of Bonita Springs, FL died Thursday, 6 March 2014. She was born in Beattysville, KY on December 28, 1924, and was a resident of Vandalia, OH before moving to Bonita Springs, FL in 1979. Mabel was married to Walter Fleenor who retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) in 1974, as an aircraft maintenance engineer, after 35 years of service. Walter passed away in June 2000. In Ohio, Mabel raised a family of three boys. Mabel loved just taking care of the family and enjoyed taking her sons to the local pool. Mabel worked extra hard to keep her boys out of mischief. Mabel was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Vandalia-Butler Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad and a member of the Vandalia Grace Brethren Church in Vandalia, OH. In Bonita Springs, Mabel enjoyed playing Euchre (and beating the boys), riding her bicycle, swimming, walking, and generally living the "quiet life" in Spring Creek Village. Mabel and Walter loved the friendliness and closeness that the local residents brought to their time in Spring Creek Village. Her parents were James Everett Childers and Elsie Stamper. Mabel's brothers and sister include: Henry Childers and wife, June, of Huber Heights, Ohio, Retta (Childers) Brandenburg and husband, Gene Brandenburg, of Vandalia, Ohio, and Johnny Childers and wife, Tina, of Warren, Maine, Lonnie Childers (deceased) and wife, Leona (deceased), of Miamisburg, OH, Millard Gabbard (deceased) of Preble County, OH, and George Childers (deceased) and wife, Esther (deceased), of West Alexandria, OH. Mabel is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law: Richard and Mary Fleenor of Punta Gorda, FL; James and Pam Fleenor of Vandalia, OH. Mabel has one son, Mark Fleenor, who is deceased. Mabel has two grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Mabel will be sadly missed by her sons and their families and her friends in Spring Creek Village.
