Obituary of Margaret R. Raven

Margaret R. Raven, 90, of North Port, Florida passed away at her residence on February 13, 2014 with her family by her side. Margaret was born March 13, 1923 in Jersey City, NJ to Jack and Margaret (nee McKenna) Langley and resided in Hackensack, NJ for many years where she was the secretary to the Chief of Police. Margaret retired early to help care for her grandchildren and then moved to North Port, FL in 1995. Both before and after moving to Florida, she volunteered as much as six days a week, including doing income taxes for the elderly, driving for both Meals on Wheels, and the F.I.S.H. Program, a patient advocate at St Joseph's Hospital (now Peace River Hospital) in Port Charlotte, FL, arranged and led retreats for the Diocese of Venice FL, led study groups at Tammy House in Venice, FL, and was a Eucharistic Minister for San Pedro Catholic Church in North Port, visiting the sick and home-bound. She was also a member and mentor for more then 52 years with the "Friends of Bill W". Margaret is survived by her daughters, Linda McGovern and her husband, Rev. Robert J, Janis Raven-Garvey and spouse, Joseph Kocses, all of North Port, FL, Bonnie Steines of River Edge, NJ, six grandchildren, and her niece, June Langley and husband, Dave Shea of Edenton, North Carolina and North Port, FL. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 10:30AM at Truth Fellowship Church, 1810 El Jobean Rd. (SR776) Unit #4, Port Charlotte, FL.
