Obituary of George H. Truman

George H. Truman, 91, of Lake Suzy, Florida passed away Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte. Mr. Truman was born July 3, 1923 in South Bend, Indiana to George L. and Gladys (nee Geyer) Truman and moved to the Punta Gorda and Lake Suzy area in 1990. Prior to moving to this area George lived in South Bend for 62 years before retiring to the Diamond Lake-Cassopilis, Michigan area. He graduated from Riley High School and attended Kalamazoo College. George worked for A. P. Green, a worldwide refractory company in engineering where he traveled to promote sales and installation of products, along with development of new materials and methods of installing by the pneumatic application. He was a past officer of the Elks Lodge #2606 and #235, Punta Gorda and South Bend respectively, member of the Moose Lodge #2121, American Legion Post #110, and was an officer of the Charlotte County Ponce de Leon Conquistadors. George was an active bowler and secretary of the Senior Leagues in retirement. He was also an avid Notre Dame Football fan, with his wife, Ginny, with whom he attended games for 61 years. George was a veteran of Work War II in the 99th Infantry Division and received The Presidential Citation and the Combat Infantry man's badge during the "Battle of the Bulge" - European Theater. George is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Virginia "Ginny" (nee Dean) Truman; daughters, Sharon A. Truman of New Bern, NC and Jorga L. Tucker of North Fort Myers, FL; grandson, David Straw of Jacksonville, FL; and 2 great-grandchildren. Graveside services with Military Honors and inurnment will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, October 11, 2013 at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota.
