Obituary of James C. Wilgus

James Casper Wilgus, 70, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital. He was born July 10, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Known as "Jim", he was the son of Merle Casper and Regina Katherine (nee Claise) Wilgus. He was raised in Tell City, Indiana from 1944-1952, Shelbyville, Indiana from 1952-1956, and Indianapolis through his graduation from Scecina Catholic High School in Indianapolis in 1961. He attended Marian College in Indianapolis and embarked on a 15-year career with Prudential Life Insurance Corporation. He continued to pursue various endeavors in the insurance industry in Indiana and eventually in Florida, beginning in Orlando in 1978, and ultimately in Southwest Florida in 1992. Surviving are his mother, Regina K. Wilgus of Indianapolis; a daughter, Maria W. Greenberg and her husband, Dale, of Port Charlotte; two sons: James S. Wilgus of Merrillville, IN and Jeffrey J. Wilgus of Leesburg, GA; his spouse of 49 years and mother to his children, Terry McDonnell Wilgus, of Port Charlotte; seven grandchildren including Erin Greenberg of Tampa, Bryan Greenberg of St. Petersburg, Lisa Greenberg of Gainesville, and Matthew Greenberg of Port Charlotte; also Bradley Wilgus and Phillip Wilgus of Pullman, WA; and Logan Wilgus of Issaquah, WA. Also surviving are two sisters, Kathy J. Clark of Lawton, OK; and Beth Ann Kornegay of New Smyrna Beach; and seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Merle Wilgus in 1997, and a nephew, Daniel Wilgus Clark in March 2013. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11 from 2-4:00PM and 7-9:00PM at Paul Schelm Funeral Home, 12687 SW County Road 769 in Lake Suzy. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 12:00PM on Saturday, September 14 at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Indianapolis, IN.
