Obituary of Marjorie T. Goike

Marjorie Vogler Goike We are celebrating the life, family and friendships of Marjorie Vogler Goike, our mother, who went to be with the Lord at 1:30 AM Tuesday 8/27/2013. Mom was 87, closing in fast on 88 and often talked about the "golden years." They aren't so golden, she'd say laughing. Still, in those 87 years she accomplished a lot! She was the eldest child and grew up with four sisters (Toppy, Marion, Pete and Evie) and one brother (John), on a farm in Sterling Heights, Michigan. At age 23, she married Michael Goike and together they ran a truck farm on 26 Mile Road in Washington, Michigan. It was nestled in among four of Dad's brothers farms, Gus, Ed, Bill and Pat. At the same time, Dad was selling insurance and eventually they owned and operated Elmlands Realty in Romeo, Michigan. We (Chris and Judy) are grateful to them for raising us, their two (beautiful!!) daughters whilst actively taking part in St. Isidore's Church where Mom played music for the Mass every day for over 20 years!! Mom was very active in the community, becoming an excellent bowler! When Dad complained about the cold winters in Michigan one too many times, they decided to head south. Picking up everything, they moved to Punta Gorda Florida, where Lazy Lagoon Mobile Home Park on Shell Creek was waiting for them. For the next 30 years, Mom ran the books, called bingo and led the singing and Dad fixed everything that broke and built whatever he needed to help run the park. They were well loved and respected by their residents. They sold the park to the residents and "retired" to Lake Suzy, Florida.. close to their family. Here is where mom's bingo commitment took a serious turn! She LOVED to play and she was good at it!! Luck ran with her and we'd laugh and call her the Bingo Queen! Margie loved to laugh and have fun and more times than we can countshe could be found sitting at the piano, playing favorite tunes for friends, acquaintances and strangers.. but they didn't stay strangers for long!! She was everybody's friend and had a great smile, and an infectious personality!! Please share a story with us? A moment you remember that will help us as we grieve. We will miss her so much and never ever forget her. Rest in peace Mumma! Love you, Chris and Judy
