Obituary of John Robert Morgan

John Robert Morgan, better known as Jack, passed away at his home in Cape Coral, Florida on February 14th, 2023. Jack’s premature death, at the age of 65, was due to sudden strokes and complications, of which he never recovered. Jack was born to Richard and Margaret Morgan in Norristown Pennsylvania on December 22, 1957, the youngest of six children. He attended elementary schools in Devon, Pennsylvania and Avalon, New Jersey, and Junior and Senior High in Punta Gorda, Florida. He graduated in 1975 from Florida Central Academy in Sorrento, Florida. Jack continued his education and completed a Bachelor of Science and master’s degree in Civil Engineering. Jack’s passion was building bridges. Throughout his career, he was highly sought after as a project manager due to his team building skills and knowledge of the Florida Department of Transportation Specifications. While employed at Astaldi Construction he received recognition for his work including the WRAP award for recycling practices and both the Silver and Gold Step Safety awards. In 2009 Jack formed John Robert Morgan Consulting LLC and offered his experience to heavy/highway and bridge contractors across the state of Florida. As a young man, Jack loved surfing in Avalon, NJ, Cape Hatteras, NC, and Galveston, TX. During high school, he played varsity football for Punta Gorda Tarpons, earning several “player of the week” and “skull and crossbones”, (most valuable player for a game) awards. He earned championships and awards in a local fast pitch softball league. Jack settled in Ocala, FL, where he and his first wife, Kimberly Brantley Finn, raised their two children, Tyler and Kelly. Jack instilled his love of sports and competition to his children by coaching and practicing with them in his free time. Jack and Kim divorced: Jack relocated to Marco Island, FL, where he was able to reclaim his love of the ocean--boating, fishing, and body surfing. On May 6, 2006, Jack married Carla Fox Morgan at Key West, FL. Jack and Carla have resided in coastal SW Florida cities, according to bridge projects Jack managed, and fulfilling his lifelong wish to be near the ocean. They are---Marco Island, Sarasota, Siesta Key, Port Charlotte, Longboat Key, and Cape Coral. Jack and Carla spent their free time traveling to Caribbean Islands and the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. Jack gave his heart to our Lord Jesus Christ at age 13, and in his own words, “felt a calling on my life to do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” He lived out that calling as a devoted husband, father and friend. He carried a contagious smile and a spirit of generosity-- to his community and those who knew him. Jack is survived by his wife, Carla Denise Morgan who resides in Cape Coral, Florida; five children and step-children: Kelly Renee Evans, and husband Shawn, of Ocala, Florida; John Tyler Morgan, and wife Shannon, of North Fort Myers, Florida; Travis Scott Johnson, and wife Amber, of Cape Coral, FL; Tyler Jay Johnson of Pineville, Missouri; Vincent Alan Johnson of Little Rock, Arkansas; three grandchildren: Colton Evans, Hannah Evans, and Willow Morgan; five siblings: Diane Tomlin, Susan Morgan, Richard Morgan, Evie Morgan, and Joanne Prahl.
