Obituary of Lena Beissel

Lena Beissel, 99, of Punta Gorda, FL, lost her battle with Alzheimer’s disease on December 5, 2022. Lena was born November 10, 1923, to the late Cologero and Rubina LaPorta (née Artimagnella) in Troina, Sicily. At age seven, Lena moved to Philadelphia, PA with her parents and brother Gerald. In 1946, Lena married Joseph Abbamondi in Philadelphia, PA. They had one daughter together, Cecelia. Lena went on to marry her soul mate, Lenox Beissel, in May 1980. They retired to Deerfield Beach, FL and eventually Punta Gorda, FL. Lena was a proud mother and enjoyed sewing, travel, Disney, musical theater, and Wheel of Fortune. She is survived by her daughter Ceil Grant; her granddaughters Natalie Nicholson (Steven) and Carolyn McGuire (Michael) as well as her great-grandsons Austin Wolf and Michael McGuire. Additionally, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Rita LaPorta and her niece Debbie Paolino. In addition to her parents, Lena is preceded in death by her loving husband of 32 years, Len Beissel, her brother Gerald LaPorta, her son-in-law William Grant, her niece Geraldine LaPorta, and her nephew Charles LaPorta.
