Obituary of William Charles Amatucci

William (Bill) Amatucci, 72, loving husband, father, grandfather, and avid sports fan passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022. His battle with cancer showed his courage in facing life challenges with positivity. Despite the pain, he kept making everyone laugh until the end. He was born in Queens, NY to the late Carmine & Mabel Amatucci. Bill enlisted into the United States Navy & was honorably discharged in 1974. He then graduated from Nassau Community College & began his career as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. After 46 years he finally retired in 2019. Bill loved music. In his younger years, he was a drummer for a rock band. When in high school he met the love of his life, Melissa (Resch) Amatucci while attending Sunday afternoon dances at Chellis Hall in Jamacia, Queens. Married in 1970, they started their family shortly afterwards. Bill had a passion for sports. Throughout his life, he was a dedicated University of Michigan fan (Go BLUE) & a Boston Red Sox enthusiast (Go figure). When Michigan & Ohio State played, it was almost like a national holiday. We would all dress in Michigan Maize & Blue then enjoy the rivalry game together. He also enjoyed running. He was one of the founding members of Zoomers Running Club & participated in several running events to include, the Marine Corp Marathon, the Disney Marathon & several duathlons. Bill’s biggest role was that of a family man, father, and much adored grandfather. He was extremely dedicated. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his children & grandchildren as he loved them all. He participated in many facets of their lives, to include, baseball games & tournaments, football games, lacrosse games, soccer & hockey. Superbowl Sunday was a special time for him to spend with his grandchildren. He always looked forward to the annual trip with his grandsons to Homestead for the NASCAR races. The stories from their NASCAR trips have been told many times at the dinner table, always leaving us in tears from laughing so hard. Bill liked to vacation each year in New Smyrna Beach with his grandchildren. This was a very special time to spend the week together. Many great memories were made at the beach. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Melissa Amatucci, his two daughters Jennifer (John) Howes and Rebecca Socia, his four grandchildren, John Howes, Joey Howes, Stella Socia, Milo Socia, his sister Barbara (Doug) Macdonald and his brother Dr. Gerald (Debbie) Amatucci and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Here is the way it should be: Hail! to the victors valiant Hail! to the conquering heroes Hail! Hail! to Michigan The leaders and best! Hail! To the victors valiant Hail! to the conquering heroes Hail! Hail! to Michigan The champions of the west!
