Obituary of Eugene Ray Groh

Eugene ‘Bud’ Groh 3/20/1926 – 12/27/2021 In his 95 years he lived his life with honor and kindness and to the fullest degree he could. He was a man of service, fortitude and unwavering love for his family. He met every challenge head on and worked through it, he was not a man to give up. He served his country right out of high school and served with honor until he was medically discharged with a military related injury. After discharge he found employment in the Lansing MI area and met the girl he would fall in love with and marry, Arlene Rose Clark. Together they made a home and life for 56 years. They would raise a family, Sharon Lee (Costello) and Melody Groh until their daughters moved on to raise their families giving them 5 grandchildren they would enjoy and spoil the best they could. Angie Boyce, Brian Costello, Shelly Costello, Lisa Nobach and Katie Grass would all bring their own unique talents and personalities to the family. Bud built the first house he and Arlene lived in and then later built a ‘cottage’ for his growing family to enjoy – and enjoy it they all did. It was a destination for not only family but many friends and extended family to come and enjoy very much to his delight. Family was not his only concern though – he was a man of service and served in leadership roles in several service organizations. His favorite was the Lansing Civitan Club as the organization took St. Vincent DePaul Orphanage on as one of their projects providing children with activities and summer fun they might never have encountered with the organization’s support and volunteerism. He found even MORE ways to help as he was the ‘go to guy’ for family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. If there was something he could help with – he was there. If he didn’t know how to do what needed doing, he would learn. He never asked anything in return other than friendship. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his brother-in-laws and cousins. He played sports and loved watching sports – an avid football and ice hockey fan of MSU - he could be found at the games rooting his team on. In the winter months he would bowl and in the summer months you could find him playing softball until he discovered golf. He would go on to become an excellent golfer and share his love of the game with son-in-laws and his grandson, Brian. He and Arlene traveled to visit friends or see new destinations with friends. He and Arlene retired to N Ft Myers, FL where they spent many years enjoying all the activities at Tara Woods. He enjoyed attending and hosting any number of parties or gatherings and his friends will all remember him as an excellent host with a big smile on his face. Bud was a man of character who loved his family and took on the world with kindness and giving of himself. He will always be deeply loved by his family and friends. The world will miss a very good man.
