Obituary of Richard Lenworth Groves

Richard L. Groves was born December 23, 1949, on the beautiful sunny island of Jamaica in the British West Indies to the union of Reginald Titchbourne Edward Groves and Maisie Enid Kathleen Cummings. Richard arrived in America at the tender age of eight on November 16, 1958 with his mother. Upon arrival to the United States Richard learned that there were cultural differences and he would have to strive to be the best. Richard’s passion to be better helped him climb the ladder of success to achieve a college degree, law degree, and become a licensed pilot. As a youth, Richard attended St. Augustine Episcopal elementary school. He continued his education at George Wingate High School, St. Francis College, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brooklyn Law School. While Richard did not choose to practice law, his passion now turned him to the skies above. Richard’s passions led him to flight school where he completed ground & flight school. He loved his many adventures traveling around the world and being introduced to many cultures. After sailing the skies, Richard received the opportunity to become a court officer and grand jury warden. Here is where he met his wife, Yvonne and it was wheels up. After serving forty years working in the court system, Richard retired and moved with his wife to Florida where they spent the remainder of his life together. Richard devoted his life to Jehovah God by becoming a member of the Jehovah Witnesses in July 1997. Richard was an active member of the Deep Creek Congregation in Florida. Richard’s love for Jehovah God was seen throughout his service to the Kingdom Hall. Richard has the hope of returning to a paradise on earth with his wife he loved so dearly. Richard is survived by his lovely wife Merita Yvonne Groves, step-children Darleen Rai Dawson, Khristopher Jason Dawson, Herbert Lee Marcus Dawson, & Blair Ashley Fenty Dawson (Araujo), Son-in-law Luis Araujo, Daughters-in-law Jennifer & Gina Dawson and grandchildren Carter, Sean, Jade & Alexander. A memorial service for Richard will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a re-pass to follow at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home
