Obituary of Joseph Hucks

Hucks, Joseph Bradford “Brad”, age 57 of Port Charlotte, Florida died unexpectedly on May 24, 2021. Brad was born in Germany on July 20, 1963. When he was two years old, he moved to Alexandria, Virginia where he resided through his early twenties. He was a graduate of Fort Hunt High School in 1982 and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia in 1986. While in college, Brad loved playing football and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Brad began his athletic career very early at Mount Vernon Swim Park in Hollin Hall. He joined the 8 and under age group and continued swimming competitively through his late teens. He had the most beautiful Butterfly and Freestyle which won him a multitude of awards. His competitive spirit carried over into high school and college with football and weightlifting. His career after college was nothing short of spectacular. He specialized in insulation and construction material sales. His craft was started in Virginia but carried over to Georgia and finally Florida before he suffered a career ending injury several years ago. When Brad was not working, he enjoyed his personal home improvement projects and became quite the woodworker, landscaper and all-around handyman. One of his most favorite pastimes was planning, preparing and cooking meals with the love of his life Elizabeth. This quality time together allowed them time to reflect on each day and build an amazing life together. In addition, they would spend as much time as possible out on their boat enjoying the great outdoors and honing their fishing skills. They loved to spend time with family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents Joseph Bethea Hucks of Conway, SC and Mary Carolyn Hucks of Hooksett, NH, He is survived by his brother Edmund Hucks, wife Sandra Hucks and his nephew as well as God Child Charlie Hucks of Myrtle Beach, SC; his best friend, love of his life and fiancé’ Elizabeth Burr and her three children Kathryn, Christopher and Ryan and 4 grandchildren Kylee, Jaxon, Connor, Jamison. He loved sharing in all the children's lives as “Grandpa”. Brad’s wit, sarcasm, compassion and love of family will be so hard to overcome. Although he was taken from us prematurely, he will be deeply missed and loved from the bottom of our hearts. There will be a private family grave site ceremony in Conway, SC. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
