Obituary of Bill Williams

William E. “Bill” Williams of Port Charlotte, FL and formerly of Marion, IN passed away peacefully with his wife and sister present under the loving care of Tidewell Hospice on May 11, 2021. He was 70 years old. Bill was born on September 30, 1950 in Santa Barbara, CA to Cecil H. and Irene M. (Bockey) Williams. He graduated from Bennett High School in Marion, IN in 1968. Shortly after, he married the love of his life and best friend, Patricia A. “Patty” (Stewart). They were former members of St. Paul Catholic Church in Marion where they raised their three children in the faith. For the first 30 years of his working life, Bill was a mechanic. He then went on to log in over 750,000 safety miles as a professional driver during the 18 years he worked as a contracted driver for Horizon Transport. Bill was an avid sports fan who enjoyed participating in and watching them. Baseball was his all-time favorite. In the earlier years, he coached his sons’ baseball teams and later officiated for high school and college games. Once retired, he loved attending his grandsons' games, but through it all, Bill was a lifelong Cardinals fan. He also enjoyed playing golf and softball. Bill relaxed by putting puzzles together of places he and Patty visited and was extremely touched this past Christmas when all of his puzzles were framed. He felt most at peace lying in his hammock almost every day in Florida. Bill's family was his most important priority his entire life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Irene; brother, Frank Williams; sister, Betty Tuter; in-laws, Ronald and Christine Stewart; brother-in-law, Ted Miller; and his best friends, Mandy and Molly, his dogs. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patty; children, Chrissy (Steve) Zylstra, Bill (Marisa) Williams and Patrick (Tatjana) Williams; grandchildren, Tyler, Maia, Mason, Ethan, Emma, Cameron and Lauren; sister, Cecilia (Mike) Bevans; sister-in-law, Paula Miller; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and Bill's special friends, Tim Schoolman and Mike Tibbets from the Marion Elks Lodge where Bill was a member. A Private Family Viewing will take place on Friday, May 14, 2021. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 15, at 2:00 PM at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home. All are invited to attend.
