Obituary of Thomas James Gorman

Thomas James Gorman, 77 of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away on February 5, 2021. He was born in Yonkers, New York on August 23, 1943 to Thomas and Mary (Harrington) Gorman. Thomas was raised in Yonkers and graduated from Saunders High School. He became a master plumber and worked as a nuclear mechanic for the New York Power Authority. After retirement, he and his wife, Lois moved from New York to Florida, where they could enjoy the warmer weather all year round. Thomas always appreciated the great outdoors, especially when surrounded by nature, walking the rail trail. He also received enjoyment from helping others and gladly volunteered his time at the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Department and their Project Lifesaver Program and also for missions at the Burnt Store Presbyterian Church. Thomas served in his Elks Lodge as Exhalted Ruler in 2000 and 2005, a position that correlates as President and Executive Officer. He was also elected to be an “Honorary Life Member” for his distinguished services to the Lodge. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Lois Ann (MacDonald); cherished children, Thomas (Michelle), Dawn (Ed), Mary (Dwayne) and Sean (Cheryl); much-loved grandchildren, Ryan Sherwood, Ashley O’Neil (David), Brittany Gorman, Kyle Gorman, Connor Gorman, Brianna Sherwood, Emily Sherwood, William Sullivan and Sarah Sullivan; and dear sister, Bernice Quimby. A memorial service in Thomas’ honor will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021, starting at 1:00 PM with time to greet and visit with the family immediately following. Services will be held at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, 9400 Indian Spring Cemetery Road, Punta Gorda, FL 33950.
