Obituary of Marilyn Mae Cannon

Marilyn Mae Cannon passed away peacefully at home on December 5th of 2020 in Punta Gorda, FL. She was born in Peoria, IL on May 22, 1936 to George and Marguerite Durdle of Maquon, IL. She graduated from Spoon River Valley High School and Midstate Business College. She and her husband lived in central Illinois until moving to Punta Gorda in 2015. Marilyn had a passion for family heritage and spent many of her vacations with her husband researching their family tree. She acted as the Secretary of the Charlotte County Genealogical Society. She was an avid antique collector with her business, Candle Antiques. She spent many weekends selling antiques at flea markets and Spoon River Drive before retiring in 2015. Marilyn is survived by her loving husband Carl Clinton Cannon of 65 years and her children Greg (Lynda) Cannon of Coral Springs, FL, Roger (Diane) Cannon of St. Louis, MO, Susan (Tim) Boisseau of North Port, FL, Janet (Ken) Reh of DeSoto, KS, and Dennis (Garnet) Cannon of Tampa, FL. She is preceded in death by her son Bryan (Patty) Cannon, parents and brother Keith Durdle. The joy of her life was time spent surrounded by her children, 21 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Marilyn enjoyed connecting with loved ones through gardening, fishing, and camping. She always made it a point to travel to every special event and milestone, she could always be counted on to cheer proudly at her grandchildren’s sporting events, band concerts, competitions, church and school activities. Marilyn continues to be a beautiful example of unconditional love and support for her growing family. She is celebrated by her grandchildren for her selfless, drop-anything-for-anyone-attitude, her quick wit, and the way her eyes lit up when she was telling a story. Interment occurred in Charlotte Memorial Cemetery, Punta Gorda, FL.
