Obituary of Angelo D'Agostino

Angelo D’Agostino, 81 of Punta Gorda, FL passed away on October 10 surrounded by his loving family. Angelo was born in Gioia Tauro, Italy in 1939. Growing up as a boy, his sisters and mother affectionately called him “Lillo”. He arrived in the USA with his sisters and mother in December of 1954. His family settled in Rochester N.Y. He then attended high school in the evenings to obtain his high school diploma at East High. As a young man, he quickly grew interested in American sports, music and automobiles. In 1963, he was drafted in the US army where he was assigned to duty in Bamberg, Germany. Here is where he met his wife to be, the love of his life, Gisela. He served for two years and was honorably discharged in 1965. After returning from service, he attained several jobs before starting a 47-year career at Hickey Freeman, as a fabric cutter and manager. He and his loving wife Gisela settled in Irondequoit, NY where they began their journey of 54 years of marriage. His love and devotion for his family was the foundation of his life. He enjoyed coaching youth soccer where kids on his team loved to play for him calling him “Mr. D”. He would inspire their best efforts by challenging and encouraging his team. He loved sports, especially soccer and baseball, with his favorite teams Juventus (soccer) and the N.Y. Yankees. His favorite football team being the N.Y. Giants. His other hobbies included gardening, crossword puzzles and dancing with his beautiful wife. After 47 years in New York, they moved to Punta Gorda, FL in retirement. They then continued to devote themselves to their family, which now included 8 grandchildren over the years. During this time, they enjoyed being at the beach where he loved collecting shells. Angelo and Gisela established close friendships with many over the years. His loyalty, faithfulness and trust in God were the hallmarks of his life. Angelo was preceded in death by his mother, Rosa. He is survived by his sons James and John, and daughter Janet (Neil Davis). Sisters Connie and Carmelina. A dear Uncle, Joe Pelligrino and wife Helen. Eight grandchildren: Jeremy, Joshua, Allie, Gigi, Collin, Julia, Matthias and Denise. Cousins, nieces and nephews.
