Philip Weston

Obituary of Philip "Denis" Weston

Philip “Denis” Weston, DD, was promoted to glory on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 in Port Charlotte, Florida with his beloved wife Carol of 50 years holding his hand. The eldest of 7 children, Denis was born in Hamilton, ON on March 5, 1941 to Norman and Mary Weston (deceased). One might say Denis had two callings, the first and most important was to God to which he devoted his life studies, and the second to perfecting his brilliant wit. He attended Great Lakes Christian High school in Beamsville, ON and went on to acquire his undergraduate degree from Abilene Christian University, Abilene, TX. He returned to Hamilton to teach Physics and Math for The Hamilton Board of Education. In 1969 he married his true love, Carol, who he supported in everything for 51 years. They had two sons,  Aaron & Galen, whom they raised in Freelton,ON in the family home he designed and built with Aaron & Galen his devoted apprentices.  After 32 years of teaching, Denis took early retirement and he and Carol moved to Ajijic, Mexico. There he preached occasionally at Little Chapel by the Lake and El Lago Community Church.  He inaugurated the first Adult Sunday School at both churches.  Denis also taught Spanish to others who desired to communicate with Mexicans.  After 3 years in Mexico, he returned to Abilene Christian University and earned a Master of Divinity degree but while he was working on that degree he was an adjunct professor teaching The Message of the Old Testament to Sophomores.  After graduation he was hired to be Minister at Central Church of Christ in Lake City, Florida. In 2013 he relocated to Port Charlotte where he joined the staff at Southwest Florida Bible Institute.   While teaching at SWFBI, Denis felt an urge to continue his studies. He then returned to university and earned a Doctor of Divinity degree from Masters International University of Divinity, Evansville, Indiana in 2016.  Nine months later, during his teachings, it became clear that Denis was struggling.  His diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease came soon after. During that difficult time, his faith nor his infectious humor ever left him.

He was beloved husband of Carol (nee Renney) for over 50 years; father of Aaron (Veronica) of Barrie, ON and Galen (Sousie) Toronto ON; grandfather of Jacqueline, Keegan, Rose & Daphne; brother of Keith (Chris) of Wasaga Beach ON, Ellen (Chris) Maybury on Newmarket, ON, Jane (Russ) Walker of Beamsville, ON, Malcolm (Kathy) of Calgary AB, Paul (Doris) of Langley, BC, Stephen (Vanessa Taylor) of Rockwood, ON; brother-in-law of Nadine (Norman) Watson, Mount Hope, ON, Robert (Deceased) (Sharon) Prince of Ancaster, ON and Terry (Wanda) Slobodian of Winnipeg, MN; numerous nieces, nephews, colleagues, students and friends remain.
