Obituary of Neil L. Thompson

Neil Lewis Thompson, 98, died on May 21, 2019. He was born November 8, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan, and raised his family there. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1942 with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked in the automotive industry and was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers. In 1977, Neil & his wife, Betty, moved to Port Charlotte, Florida. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he shared his skills in stained glass by helping create many of their stained glass windows. He loved music, and spent many hours playing the organ. He also used his wood working skills in the workshop at the Port Charlotte Cultural Center. He was President of his condo association and enjoyed helping residents with their many projects. Neil was predeceased by his wife of 74 years, Betty. He is survived by his children Thomas (Donna) of Orlando, and Barbara (Richard) Burdette of West Palm Beach. He was blessed with four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He will be remembered in many ways, but always for his devotion to God and family, and treasuring the friendships during his life time. A time of remembrance and celebrating his life will be at a later date.
