Obituary of Verlyn M. Gunderson

Verlyn M. Gunderson, 85, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Wednesday, August 19, 2009 in the home of her daughter in Loxahatchee, FL. She was born September 29, 1923 in Holdrege, Nebraska to Carl and Lillie (Smith) Modine. Mrs. Gunderson graduated from high school in Monroe, Michigan in 1941 and served as an army nurse aide during WWII in Irvine, Texas. Verlyn was employed by TWA for 10 years in New York City. While in New York City she met and married Orval Gunderson on May 1, 1949 and had two children there. They moved to Bloomington, Minnesota where she raised her family and worked for the Bloomington Public School System and Control Data. Verlyn and Orval retired to Port Charlotte 29 years ago from Bloomington, Minnesota. She was a member of TOPS Florida Chapter 133 and was also a volunteer and active member of Port Charlotte United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed making pure silk flowers. Verlyn is survived by her husband, Orval Gunderson of Port Charlotte; son, Paul J. (Jeanette) Gunderson of Eden Prairie, MN; daughter, Vicki L. (Emilio) Borrego of Loxahatchee, FL; 14 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lillie Modine and sister, Delores Schudel. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 3:00PM on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at Port Charlotte United Methodist Church, 21075 Quesada Boulevard in Port Charlotte with Rev.
