John J. Stasney, 80, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Sunday, August 16, 2009 at Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care in Port Charlotte. Mr. Stasney was born February 12, 1929 in Kulpmont, Pennsylvania and moved to Port Charlotte 48 years ago from Kaiserlautern, Germany. He worked as a mail carrier for 31 years in Port Charlotte; was charter member of DAV in Port Charlotte; and was a volunteer with the first fire department in Port Charlotte. Mr. Stasney served in the US Army in the Korean War and was a member of Punta Gorda Alliance Church in Punta Gorda.
Mr. Stasney is survived by his loving wife, Christina D. (Daft) Stasney; son, Rev. Dr. Clint John (Jennifer) Stasney of Port Charlotte; daughter, Jill S. Overmoyer of Cartersville, Georgia; and grandchildren, Alexandra, Victoria Joy, and Johnathan Paul David Overmoyer, and Adelyn Grace and Josiah John Stasney.
Visitation will be Friday, August 21, 2009 from 11:00AM - 12:00PM at First Alliance Church, 20444 Midway Boulevard in Port Charlotte. Funeral Services will follow at 12:00PM at the church. Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte. Honorary pallbearers will be the American Wheelchair Bowling Association members of which John was a member for 6 years.
