Obituary of Loyd E. Smithey

Loyd E. Smithey, 71, of Port Charlotte, Florida went to be with our Lord at home surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, June 21, 2012. Loyd retired after 30 years at Caterpillar, Inc. and retired in Florida in 1998. He enjoyed reading, music, and spending time with his family and friends. He was always there to lend an ear or help anyone in any way. He was a great companion on a journey and had a very dry sense of southern humor. Loyd was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knows him. Loyd is survived by his wife of 22 years, Marie; son, Mike (Maria) of Aurora, IL; daughter, Lori (Bill) of Bradenton, FL; step-son, Joe (Carrie) of Warrenville, IL; brother, James (Dee) of Quincy, IL; sister, Edna (Clifford) of Montgomery, IL; 7 loving grandchildren, Erika, Brittany, Brandon, Connor, Maggie, Gavin, and Darcy; 2 great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Baylie; and extended grandchildren in his life, Sammy, Alex, Summer, and Serena. A Celebration of his life will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Paul Schelm Funeral Home, 12687 SW County Road 769 (Kings Highway) in Lake Suzy.
