Obituary of Raymond P. Mazzucco

Raymond P. Mazzucco, 90, of Port Charlotte, Fl., passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 1, 1922, in Bridgeport, CT., to Philip and Antoinette Mazzucco. Raymond graduated from Central High School in Bridgeport, CT in 1941. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII from 1942 -1946, where he received an Honorable Discharge. Raymond was a member of The American Legion for 50 years. After serving his country in WWII, he was recruited and played minor league baseball from 1947 to 1950 as a professional pitcher. Raymond's claim to fame was pitching to the young Mickey Mantle whom became a friend to him. In 1950, after Raymond's career in baseball, he became a Bridgeport Firefigher. He retired after 27 years of service. He moved to Port Charlotte, FL in 1984, where he became very active in table tennis, horseshoes and also competed in the Senior Olympics. He is survived by his daughters, Antoinette (Joe) Garofalo, Donna (Rich) Silva, Christine (Shane) Lusk, son Brian Mazzucco, sisters, Mary Gianatasio, Theresa Clyons, and his seven loving grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Maryann ,his son, Raymond Mazzucco, sisters, Angie Demanovich, Rose Stowell, Emily Morrissey, Assunta Cocozza, brothers, Dominick, Joseph, James, and Peter. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2012 at San Pedro Catholic Church in North Port, Fl.
