Obituary of Sophia A. Wright

Sophia A. Wright, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Born on January 27, 1920 in Potsdam, NY, Sophia was the daughter of the late George and Anna (Grusdock) Smith. She moved to Florida in 1967, and remained there until she returned to New York and settled in Bishop Broderick Apartments in 2000. She proudly worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years in many different medical settings, both in New York and in Florida. She thoroughly enjoyed the warm Florida weather, visiting with family and friends, fishing, knitting, spending time at the beach, helping out with home construction projects and watching baseball games; she also loved cats, especially her big black friend, Max. Sophia is survived by her daughter, Carol (Thomas) McClenahan of Delanson, NY; her son, Gilbert (Joanne) Wright Jr. of Punta Gorda, FL; and her grandchildren, Michaelynn McClenahan and Thomas McClenahan II. She was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert S. Wright Sr. and her siblings, Helen Smith, John Smith, and Mary Katner. A funeral service was held at 6:00PM, on Monday, October 26, 2009 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Avenue). Calling hours preceded the service from 4 - 6:00PM at the funeral home. Interment was held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the Charlotte Harbor Cemetery in Charlotte Harbor, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations in her memory be made to the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital, 315 So. Manning Boulevard, Albany, NY 12208.
